MountainView Hospital announced today it received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for its Emergency Medicine residency program for 32 residents.

The Sunrise Health GME Consortium Emergency Medicine Residency Program located at MountainView Hospital will have eight positions available the first year, with the first Emergency Medicine residents joining MountainView beginning July 2018. This accreditation brings the total number of residency positions available at the hospital, among its accredited graduate programs, to 141 positions.

ACGME is a private, non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits graduate medical education (GME) programs. Specialized training in Emergency Medicine takes place over a three-year period.

Residents of the Emergency Medicine program will rotate between MountainView Hospital and Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Michael P. Allswede serves as the program director over the Emergency Medicine residency program.

“We are excited to open an Emergency Medicine residency program at MountainView Hospital, adding to our expanding portfolio of residency programs,” said Jeremy Bradshaw, MountainView Hospital Chief Executive Officer. “Las Vegas provides a unique opportunity for Emergency Medicine training, from the suburban community setting of MountainView Hospital, to the urban and pediatric emergency medicine, as well as trauma modalities at sister hospital Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, only minutes from one of the nation’s largest tourist destinations.”

Under the newly accredited Sunrise Health GME Consortium, which includes the Emergency Medicine program, accreditation marks another important milestone for MountainView Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education department and is the fifth accreditation for a residency program received by the hospital. MountainView Hospital launched its Graduate Medical Education program in 2015 with the accreditation of its Internal Medicine Residency Program from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Since that time, MountainView Hospital has received accreditation for additional programs including General Surgery, OB-GYN and Transitional Year.
