Summerlin and Valley hospitals both earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
This marks Valley Hospital’s fourth consecutive ‘A” grade in the past several years, noted Ryan Tingey, CEO of Valley Hospital, a 306-bed tertiary care hospital located in the Las Vegas Medical District. “Earning this is a testament to our team’s collective, purposeful effort to provide the best possible care to our patients,” he said. “Our patients’ safety is our top priority, every encounter, every time.”
Summerlin Hospital, a 496-bed tertiary care hospital, also achieved an “A” rating. “This is an award that is earned from our diligent work behind the scenes,” said Rob Freymuller, CEO. “It’s a collaborative, dedicated effort that requires education, teamwork and a passionate focus on patients, positive outcomes and incorporating best practices.”
“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that Summerlin Hospital and Valley Hospital are deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
