Sunrise Children’s Hospital leaders were joined by local dignitaries, community members and a past patient for a ribbon-cutting to unveil the newly-renovated Pediatric Emergency Room that is “bettER for kids.”

Designed with kids in mind, the newly-renovated pediatric Emergency Room at Sunrise Children’s Hospital features: bright, comforting colors to create a welcoming kid-friendly space; two separate waiting room areas with potential to create “sick” and “sickest” areas during winter months; fast-track connected to the ER unit to treat lower acuity patients allowing for improved patient flow; specially-trained pediatric nurses; physicians board-certified in pediatric emergency medicine; and much more.

“When it comes to caring for kids, we know the ER can be a scary place and we know kids aren’t one-size-fits-all,” said Todd P. Sklamberg, Chief Executive Officer, Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children’s Hospital. “The renovation of the Pediatric ER at Sunrise Children’s Hospital was designed with kids in mind to give them the highly-specialized and right-sized care they require in a calming, kid-friendly environment.”

Jantzen and Diana Bruch shared their personal story bringing their 11 month-old son, Carter, to Sunrise Children’s Hospital Pediatric ER for what they did not know at the time was a scorpion sting. Carter was throwing up, very visibly upset, and in great pain. Upon arriving at the pediatric ER, the care team immediately identified he was showing symptoms of a scorpion sting and administered the anti-scorpion medication, which began working quickly. “We are thankful for the entire team here and the truly phenomenal job they did in caring for Carter and my wife and I as well,” said Jantzen Bruch. “We are fortunate to have this facility in our community.”

From the kid-friendly design, to specially-trained pediatric nurses, 24-hour pediatric emergency medicine physicians and pediatricians, the Pediatric ER at Sunrise Children’s Hospital is dedicated to kids and completely separate from adult ER patients. When it comes to caring for kids, Sunrise Children’s Hospital is “bettER for kids.”
