Tier 1A Status from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services highest designation Given for OPO Performance

For the third-straight year, Nevada Donor Network is proud to announce that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has officially classified the organization as a “Tier 1A” organ procurement organization (OPO) in its 2023 OPO Interim Annual Public Aggregated Performance Report. As the only Nevada-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit OPO, Nevada Donor Network serves millions of Nevadans and thousands of Americans across the country by facilitating organ, eye, and tissue donations and transplants.

The report ranks OPOs in two metric categories: “donation rate” and “transplant rate.” Nevada Donor Network achieved “Tier 1A” designation, the highest Tier designation by CMS, in both metric categories based on 2021 performance data. Overall, CMS granted 15 OPOs “Tier 1” status; 18 OPOs “Tier 2” status; and 24 OPOs “Tier 3” status in this year’s performance report.

“We are extremely proud of our Tier 1A designation and OPO performance rates, which is a testament to our high performing team members, community and professional partnerships, engaged leadership, and the courageous donor heroes and family members who have helped heal and save the lives of so many,” said Nevada Donor Network President and CEO Joe Ferreira. “However, our work is far from done. No one should have to wait for a lifesaving transplant, and we are working tirelessly to end the wait, through efforts such as the Nevada Transplant Institute, to give hope to those desperately in need of a second chance at life.”

There are currently over 100,000 Americans, including more than 600 Nevadans, who are waiting for a lifesaving gift on the organ transplant waiting list.  One heroic organ donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation, can save and heal up to 75 lives through tissue donation and can restore sight to up to two people through cornea donation.

About Nevada Donor Network
Nevada Donor Network is a federally designated 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organ procurement organization (OPO) committed to maximizing the gift of life and health through organ and tissue donation.
