2019 Inspired Excellence in Healthcare Gala

Gala season returned to the Four Seasons on October 24, 2019, where the community celebrated excellence in healthcare, along with another group of inspiring honorees.

Inspired by the pioneer exploits of Dr. Royce W. Martin, Las Vegas’ first chief surgeon circa 1905, the award ceremony recognized six healthcare leaders who ignite and inspire continued possibilities for healthcare excellence. You can see their bios and profile videos below:

2019 Honorees

Inspired by the pioneer exploits of Dr. Royce W. Martin, Las Vegas’ first chief surgeon, circa 1905, the awards ceremony recognized the following healthcare leaders who have set a higher standard for the healthcare community in Southern Nevada:

Carole Fisher

Nathan Adelson Hospice

Carole Fisher serves as an organizational consultant, executive coach and public speaker. She works with others to provoke their thinking and provide tools necessary to fulfill their cause and purpose in life.

As an avid student of leadership, with an insatiable appetite for best practices and new leadership ideas, she understands how to compose high-performance cultures and organizations through developing competent and capable people. Her passion is to help individuals and organizations rise to their full potential. Additionally, Ms. Fisher works to improve the framework of organizations through strategic planning and leadership development with the organizations board of directors and senior leadership teams.

Fisher serves as an executive coach and consultant for leaders and organizations navigating unforeseen situations. She is well-versed in crisis management specifically related to unanticipated and unexpected events. She has experience with M&A mid-size transactions and has a proven track record of creating non-traditional revenue streams through JVs, collaborative partnerships and alliances. She is well respected for her ability to merge cultures and teams, influence key stakeholders, and for establishing purposeful relationships with board of directors and persons of influence.

Joseph Iser, MD, DrPH, MSC

Southern Nevada Health District

Dr. Joseph Iser, MD completed medical school and internal medicine residency at University of Kansas School of Medicine, his Doctor of Philosophy degree at University of Michigan, and his Master of Science in Infectious Diseases at University of London.

He is board certified in internal medicine, occupational medicine, and preventive medicine and public health, and has held director positions with Health Resources and Services Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Office of Pacific Health and Human Services serving Guam, Marshall Islands, Palau, Mariana Island, Micronesia, and Hawaii. He was Regional Health Administrator for Department of Health and Human Services Region VI serving Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

He has held academic faculty positions with Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, University of Texas and Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and has served in several senior leadership positions and special assignments including disaster responses with US Public Health Service.

Annette Logan-Parker

Cure 4 The Kids Foundation

Annette Logan- Parker is co-founder, President & CEO of Cure 4 The Kids Foundation (C4K), Nevada’s first and only tax-exempt childhood cancer treatment center. Logan-Parker, 51, oversees the strategic direction for the Las Vegas based, $30+ million non-profit. She is known for pioneering and directing the efforts to transform the way children with cancer in Nevada receive healthcare by creating the original mission and vision of C4K in 2006.

A seasoned healthcare executive, Logan-Parker brings the ability to balance strategic decisions and financial discipline with a hands-on approach to leadership- resulting in strong employee, patient, and physician satisfaction. Logan-Parker’s dedication and commitment to her original mission has led C4K from a grassroots start up to the prestigious recognition as #2603 of the 2018 Inc. Magazines 5000 fastest growing companies in America, as well as being named #23 of the 50 Best Non-profits in America to work for in 2019 by The NonProfit Times.

Under Logan-Parker’s leadership, in addition to the 2018 Inc. 5000 list fastest growing companies in America, C4K has received extensive community recognition with awards and nominations including The NonProfit Times NPT Best Nonprofits to work for 2019- number 23 out of 50.

Aaron Ritter, MD

Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health

Aaron Ritter, MD, specializes in Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Neurology and is the Director of Clinical Trials at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.

Dr. Ritter treats adult patients with cognitive disorders and also leads the clinical Research Department by conducting urgently needed trials to advance the prevention, early detection, and treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and Huntington’s disease. With more than 50 drugs and diagnostic trials being conducted at the Center, the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health is one of the largest and most active clinical research facilities for memory disorders in the country. During his three years as director, the clinical trials program has expanded in size and has also seen increased funding from the National Institute of Health for investigator-initiated projects. He has been recognized by Nevada Buisness Magazine as a Health Care Hero and twice by the Cleveland Clinic Educational Foundation for Excellence in Education. He has authored or co-authored a number of peer reviewed articles and book chapters focusing on dementia.

Paul Stewart, MD

Pulmonary Associates

Dr. Stewart is the Founder and President of Pulmonary Associates, a private practice specializing in pulmonary and critical care medicine dedicated to the care of patients suffering from lung disease, allergies, asthma, and sleep disorders. When Dr. Stewart moved here from Los Angeles in 1978, he was one of only four pulmonologists in Las Vegas. He took a 4- bed intensive care unit (ICU) at then Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital (now UMC) and within 4 years, worked with Administration and Cardiology to expand it into a 26- bed intensive care unit to better serve the medical needs of the community. Today, Pulmonary Associates operates four full hospital ICU’s and four office locations throughout the valley.

Dr. Stewart started at Touro University Medical School as a Clinical Professor in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in 2006. In 2008, Dr. Stewart created and implemented a much-needed critical care/pulmonary training program for the medical students. In 2011, the training program evolved into an osteopathic (DO) pulmonary critical care fellowship. In 2018, it became certified by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education as an allopathic MD fellowship.

K. Warren Volker, MD, PhD, MS

Healthcare Partners- Nevada, An Intermountain Healthcare Company

Dr. Volker joined Healthcare Partners-DaVita Medical Group NYSE:DVA in May 2017, through the acquisition of WellHealth Quality Care, where he served as the CEO for 5 years. Prior to that he was the Managing Partner and CEO of Women’s Specialty Care, PLLC from August 2003 – November 2012. He was clinical professor and director of research from July 2001 – August 2003 at the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

In his role at Healthcare Partner Nevada, Dr. Volker is responsible for specialties (outpatient/hospitalbased) and fee-for-service primary care. He is part of the team working with commercial, government and self-funded payors leading to value-based opportunities. He works with provider recruiting & ongoing professional development. He oversees GME and research.

Dr. Volker completed his residency in 2001 at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Las Vegas. He is board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology. He is subspecialty certified in Minimally Invasive & Robotic (MIGS) Gynecology/Pelvic reconstruction surgery. He completed medical school at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. He has his doctorate and master’s degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. He holds a BBA in Finance Management.
