“We Honor Veterans” Pinning Ceremony
July 4 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Pinning Ceremonies Are Welcomed by Veterans and their Families.
The veterans in our care particularly appreciate the opportunity to be the focus of special pinning ceremonies which honor their service to the country.
With families and friends in attendance, each veteran is singled out and given a remembrance of their service. Each ceremony honors and recognizes a group of veterans who have served our country, and helps them find comfort and peace as they approach the end of their life.
The ceremony also brings together family members, giving them a respectful occasion to once more hear about their loved one’s military service. Sometimes the moving ceremony encourages a veteran to reveal an aspect of their service that they never shared before. Often family members take the time to recall memories and tell their stories too.
For many veterans, it has been years since they were recognized and thanked for their service. As one veteran shared, “It doesn’t matter if you spent a short time or a lifetime in the military, to have someone honor you while you’re in hospice means a lot.”
This event is one of many held annually through the non-profit Nathan Adelson Hospice, which opened more than 40 years ago and has served as a national model for other hospices. Its vision is that no one should end the journey of life alone, afraid or in pain.
