Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging Celebrates 30 Years

By | Featured, Uncategorized

Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging celebrates a dream 30 years in the making

In 1988 Dr. Leon Steinberg, Dr. David Steinberg and Dr. Mark Winkler watched as the construction of the very first Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging (SDMI) building was finalized. As SDMI remembers the life of Dr. Leon Steinberg they look back at what has grown from his dreams. SDMI may have opened their doors 30 years ago, but Dr. Leon saw the potential of a dedicated outpatient radiology practice long before that. “My father often reminded us that it takes hard work and dedication, but he knew what SDMI could become and gave us the vision to build on” says Dr. David Steinberg.

Steinberg celebrates 30 years.

In 1958, Dr. Leon Steinberg came to Las Vegas to help Sunrise Hospital build the first radiology center in Southern Nevada. Through his experience in the hospital setting, he saw a need for a more patient-friendly option for medical imaging and aimed to build such a practice. Dr. David Haas was the first radiologist hired at SDMI and when asked to look back over the last 30 years he had this to say: “The first time I met Leon Steinberg he said to me ‘If the patient comes first everything else will fall in to place’. It was that vision that made me so pleased to come work with SDMI. Today SDMI is the patriarchal radiology practice in Southern Nevada where the staff and doctors are still focused on having the highest morals and ethical standards. SDMI provides an environment where everyone has an opportunity to succeed.”

The dreams of one man are now a city wide legacy stretching from the heart of the Las Vegas Medical District (LVMD) on the corner of Shadow Lane and the newly renamed Wellness Way to the Henderson Health Corridor, where more than 450 staff members and 30 radiologists care for over 1,000 patients everyday throughout the 8 Locations.

Being a patient centric practice is carried through the facilities from the design conception to the equipment installed to the employees that are hired. “SDMI is consistently the first to introduce new technology to Southern Nevada, every patient deserves the best imaging available and we work tirelessly to ensure they receive it.” Dr. Mark Winkler

The 30th anniversary includes expansion of the SDMI executive staff, recently promoted are, Michelle Nicholl, Chief Human Resources Officer, Devon Evanski, Chief Financial Officer, and Rachel Papka, Chief Health Informatics Officer. They joined the reigning chiefs, Operating Officer, Jerry Hartman, Information Officer, Don Shackley and Administrative Officer, Stacey Webb. Together the 5 continue SDMI’s strategic growth keeping patient care at the center. “At SDMI we continually analyze workflow, educate staff and work to increase our patient experience efforts to ensure we are growing in a way that honors the foundation on which we were built.” Stacey Webb, CAO

With Dr. David Steinberg at the helm and a leadership team so deeply rooted in Southern Nevada it is no wonder that SDMI has always been a true community partner and neighbor. This year continues their support of notable events like, Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure, American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink and CEO’s Against Cancer initiatives and most recently SDMI joined the American Lung Association as they celebrated 10 years of Scale the Strat with a team of 10 dedicated employees.

SDMI has no plans of slowing down in the years to come, you can continue to expect the same exceptional standards of patient care, top-notch equipment and community involvement from now until their next milestone anniversary and beyond.

Spring Valley Hospital Receives The Joint Certification Gold Seal of Approval

By | Press Release

Spring Valley Hospital earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Core Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement after undergoing a rigorous on-site review in December 2017. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

Spring Valley Hospital performs more orthopedic surgeries –  which includes total knee replacements, total hip replacements, shoulder, elbow and spine surgery – than any other hospital in Las Vegas, according to Leonard Freehof, CEO/Managing Director of the hospital. “Our key priorities are the patient experience and outcomes. Most of our patients are hospitalized for two days, so our staff focuses on education, physical therapy and pain management to help our patients prepare first for surgery, and then for home.

As part of the on-site review, The Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards as well as with total hip and total knee-specific requirements. Spring Valley Hospital provided information on five measures of evidenced-based medicine including deep vein thrombosis; mobility within six hours of surgery; patient experience; and patient education before and during hospitalization. To better assist patients, the orthopedics team offers an additional Joint Camp during hospitalization, inviting all orthopedic patients to participate in a group physical therapy session before leaving the hospital to address any additional concerns.

“We are pleased to receive this Certification from The Joint Commission, the premier health care quality improvement and accrediting body in the nation,” said Freehof.  “Our goal is to provide our patients with the highest level of care so they can recover quickly and resume their daily living activities.”

Slow Down the Aging Process!

By | News

Get more time by slowing down the aging process! NAD+, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, regulates how quickly your cells age. NAD+ is an essential coenzyme of Vitamin B3 (niacin) that promotes cellular regeneration and is involved in the conversion of cellular energy. By replenishing cellular levels of NAD+, like via intravenous treatment, it can repair DNA, protect brain cells from damage, reduce inflammation and turn on enzymes that help prevent aging.

We naturally produce NAD+ but it declines with age, hindering the natural repair mechanisms within our cells. So, if you can increase the levels of NAD+ in your body, you may be able to stay healthy longer. By activating enzymes called “sirtuins” via intravenous NAD+ directly into your bloodstream, it helps control your “good genes” in ways that promote healthy aging. With 100% absorption, it works rapidly to repair cells throughout the body and brain neurons. It also helps alleviate drug dependency through renovation of opiate receptors. MountainView Hospital Acquires Fifth Surgical Robotic System

By | Press Release

Robot System is the Latest in Minimally Invasive Surgery

MountainView Hospital’s Las Vegas Institute for Robotic Surgery has acquired its third Xi da Vinci robot, MountainView’s fifth surgical robotic system, allowing surgeons more access to the latest equipment for minimally invasive surgery for patients.

MountainView Hospital has been leading the way in robotic surgery since 2011, and was the first hospital in Las Vegas to offer the Xi system, the latest platform in robotic surgical technology, as a surgical option in 2014.

“Since adding the first advanced robotic surgical system to our suite of OR capabilities, demand from surgeons and patients continues to increase such that additional systems were necessary,” said Jeremy Bradshaw, MountainView Hospital Chief Executive Officer. “The advanced system allows for more complex, minimally invasive surgeries. The addition of a fifth system allows us to meet the growing demand and needs of our community.”

The latest Xi robotic surgical system acquired by MountainView offers broader capabilities than prior generations of the system, and has the ability to be used for thoracic, colorectal, gynecological and general surgery. Minimally invasive surgery allows for a quicker recovery time, less pain, less bleeding and shorter hospitalization.

The latest system also possesses enhanced 3D-HD visualization, giving surgeons a highly magnified view. The system’s overhead arm architecture provides the surgeon anatomical access from virtually any position, simplifying multi-quadrant surgeries. Smaller, thinner arms coupled with longer instrument shafts permit greater range of motion and more flexibility than ever before.

MountainView continues to be the leader in robotic surgery, offering a robust, in-depth training experience for the Graduate Medical Education residents, and an extensive panel of surgeons and pairing them with trained staff and nurses, who are part of dedicated robotic surgical teams. As the latest robotic surgical system joins MountainView’s current ensemble, MountainView Hospital is the first hospital in Nevada to possess a total of five surgical robot systems.

MountainView offers many different types of robotically assisted procedures including ear, nose and throat (ENT), gynecological, fertility and gynecological oncology, urogynecological, urology, thoracic, colorectal and general surgery including single-site gallbladder surgery. For a full list of procedures performed by the Las Vegas Institute for Robotic Surgery, please visit: www.LVIRS.com. Chumlee of HISTORY’s Pawn Stars Undergoes Weight Loss Surgery

By | Press Release

Chumlee of HISTORY’s Pawn Stars has undergone the patented Safe Sleeve surgery (also known as gastric sleeve or vertical sleeve gastrectomy) with Blossom Bariatrics and surgeon Dr. Matt Apel at Warm Springs Surgical Center.

“For someone like me who’s been trying to lose weight their whole life, to be successful in getting the weight off, but then only to find out once you change your routine and diet all the weight just piles back on, it’s really discouraging. I’ve been on a roller coaster of weight loss and gain my whole life. I decided that to keep the weight off for good, this was the best way for me. I’m committed to this and will take the steps needed as far as smaller portions and eating less. I’ve already lost almost 40 pounds on the pre-op diet and have set my goal to getting under 200 pounds. I look forward to the year ahead and appreciate the support of my family and friends as I undertake this weight loss journey,” said Chumlee (whose real name is Austin).

“I’m excited for Austin. Just like most of us, he has the drive and motivation to lose weight, but keeping it off was the challenge. That’s where the surgery shines! He’s the ideal candidate for weight loss surgery – someone who has struggled with losing weight, keeping it off, regaining it back again. Now all of his efforts will pay off, rather than a cycle of losing and gaining it back, it’s time to lose it and keep it off!” states Dr. Matt Apel, surgeon at Blossom Bariatrics who has completed over a thousand bariatric cases in just 18 months.
