With more than three decades of experience as a nurse, most of it in emergency rooms and trauma units, Katie Ryan recently settled into a director role at UMC where she oversees more than 200 emergency room nurses and other staff. It’s not something the self-professed adrenaline junkie ever saw herself doing, but she has brought efficiency, better outcomes and better overall care to Southern Nevada’s only Level-1 trauma center and one of the country’s busiest emergency rooms.

Health Care Headliner: Dr. John Anson

No, he’s not playing the role of adventurer (although he loves the outdoors and hiking) trying to make a historic climb. Instead, he’s sharpening his skills with other Wilderness Medicine Society members on how to best tend to outdoorsmen and women who injure themselves in the wild.

Health Care Headliner: Kimball Anderson

By all accounts, Kimball Anderson inherited a headache when he took on the role of Southern Hills Hospital CEO in December 2009. But he had been a chief operations officer at two Utah hospitals prior to arriving in Las Vegas and was ready for the CEO test.  Southern Hills was relatively new, opening its doors in 2004, but it had gone through three CEOs before Anderson arrived and the fledgling enterprise was clearly struggling through the Great Recession.

The contributions of Charles Perry to improving health care — in particular, post-acute health care in Nevada — are numerous. Perry has lived a life dedicated to health care and Nevada. He has been closely involved with the long-term care profession in Nevada since 1975 when he came to Las Vegas as a founding partner of Quality Care Inc. to oversee operations at the Vegas Valley Convalescent Hospital from 1975 to 1984.
